Martin MacLean

Role: European Patent Attorney

Martin is a European Patent Attorney with an Engineering degree from the University of Cambridge and has wide experience of providing patent, trade mark, copyright and trade mark support to industrial clients. In addition to patent drafting and patent, design and trade mark prosecution, he is experienced in assessing third party intellectual property rights and providing freedom to operate advice.

Practice & Professional Experience

He has particular expertise in providing IP commercial support, such as advising on IP in- and out-licensing and on the IP elements of general commercial and Defence contracts; the sub-contracting of IP services; on confidentiality and copyright, and was a Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) and Freedom of Information Act (UK and USA) subject matter expert and a Performing Rights Society (PRS) advisor.

Following training and qualifying with a firm of patent attorneys, Martin had IP management roles in corporate IP departments at BOC Group and then BAE Systems, latterly as Senior IP Counsel when he was responsible for providing a full range of IP support to BAE Systems’ military aircraft business.

Prior to entering the IP field Martin had a career as an Army Officer, in the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers. After training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst he served in Germany and the UK.
